Terms of Service

Effective July 2, 2026

1. The service

SmallBooks provides bookkeeping software: bank feed synchronization, document processing, invoicing, and financial reporting. By creating an account you agree to these terms.

2. Your account

You are responsible for safeguarding your credentials and for activity under your account. You must provide accurate information and be legally able to enter this agreement. Organizations you create may include other members you invite; you are responsible for the access you grant them.

3. Your data

You retain all rights to the data you connect, upload, or enter. You grant us the limited rights needed to operate the service, storing, processing, and displaying your data to you and the members you authorize. Our handling of personal data is described in the Privacy Policy.

4. Not financial or tax advice

SmallBooks is software, not an accountant. Reports, categorizations, and AI-assisted document extraction are provided for your convenience and may contain errors. Verify important figures and consult a qualified professional for tax and financial decisions. You are responsible for the accuracy of your books and filings.

5. Acceptable use

Don't misuse the service: no unlawful activity, no attempting to breach other tenants' data, no reselling the service without our agreement, and no interfering with its operation.

6. Fees

The service is currently free during early access. If paid plans are introduced, pricing will be published in advance and you will never be charged without explicitly subscribing.

7. Third-party services

Bank connectivity is provided by Plaid; by connecting an account you also agree to Plaid's terms. We are not responsible for outages or data issues originating with third-party providers, though we'll always work to resolve them.

8. Availability & warranty

We aim for high availability but the service is provided “as is” without warranties. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before a claim.

9. Termination

You may stop using the service and delete your data at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with notice where practicable.

10. Changes

We may update these terms; material changes will be announced by email or in-app notice before taking effect. Continued use after changes means acceptance.
